Jamil Jivani is a Canadian lawyer, activist and professor. Born and raised in and around Toronto, Jivani’s work in disadvantaged communities has taken him around the world to learn about the challenges and opportunities facing young people.
Jivani holds research and teaching appointments at Yale University and Toronto’s Osgoode Hall Law School, where he has focused on the needs of youth, immigrants, and low-income families. He is also the director of law and policy at Our Ohio Renewal, a nonprofit organization founded to develop solutions to the issues raised in J.D. Vance’s bestselling book Hillbilly Elegy. Jivani’s community service has included founding the Citizen Empowerment Project and serving as Vice Chair of the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto. Prior to obtaining his law degree at Yale Law School, Jivani graduated from York University and Humber College.
