Sheila Block is Director, Economic Analysis at the Wellesley Institute, an independent non-profit research and policy think tank. Sheila is an economist whose research interests include labour markets, public finance, and health policy. Sheila joined Wellesley Institute in 2010 after more than 15 years of advocacy and research for organizations including the Ontario Federation of Labour and the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario. She has also worked both as a political advisor and public servant in the Ontario government.
Sheila is a research associate for the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, and contributes to the Ontario and Federal Alternative Budgets. Most recently, Sheila co-authored an analysis of the impact of race and gender on Canadians’ employment earnings.
Sheila has an Honours BA in Economics from the University of British Columbia and a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Toronto.
She has appeared on a number of radio and television programs and has been active in the community on social justice issues.
