Tracking the dollars, programs and opportunities: Presentation notes on Canadian housing / homelessness policies

The patchwork of federal housing and homelessness funding and programs has been eroding over the past two decades – with Canada’s municipalities set to overtake the national government in terms of affordable housing spending. Some significant promises have been made, but it’s hard to track the dollars and measure accountability for results. Meanwhile, on the policy horizon, there are important initiatives in the Commons, the Senate and in the courts to advance housing and homelessness solutions at the national level. Some important facts and figures on current issues in housing and homelessness in Canada are included in this presentation that was prepared for the June 1 public forum that included the Wellesley Institute’s Michael Shapcott as a panelist.
