Brian Eng is the Community Engagement Specialist at the Wellesley Institute, an independent non-profit research and policy institute working to advance health equity through community-based research, community engagement, social innovation and policy development. Brian brings more than three decades of community-centred experience to the staff team. Brian has worked for both the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada and the Co-operative Housing Federation of Toronto, where he organized local and national initiatives in government relations, communications, public policy and community mobilization. Brian has also worked as a constituency assistant to Toronto Councillor Pam McConnell, where he provided practical support in a variety of community initiatives in downtown Toronto’s Ward 28. Brian has strong skills in communications, including effective presentation and on-line collaboration expertise; meeting and group facilitation; organizing and mobilizing communities for practical and effective action; and strategic campaigning and public policy work. Over the years, Brian has been responsible for a number of successful campaigns in the areas of affordable housing, peace and social justice. His work has had strong policy impact and led to important advances in Toronto, Ontario and nationally. He has worked effectively with a variety of individuals and groups “from the ground up” to achieve success.
