SUMMARY:Why Health Equity Matters Now: A conversation with Richard Wilkinson
DESCRIPTION:A special event co-hosted by MASS LBP and the University of Toronto's Dalla Lana School of Public Health    Get tickets here! Join Spirit Level author and UK academic Richard Wilkinson in a special 90 minute presentation and discussion\, moderated by Adalsteinn Brown\, on the relationship between public health and social equity. Respondents include Terry Sullivan\, Raisa Deber\, Cam Mustard and Arlene King.    Tickets are free\, but must be reserved.         IMPORTANT: LOCATION CHANGE! Please note that this event will now take place at the:    Mechanical Engineering Bldg\, Room MC 102    5 King’s College Road\, University of Toronto         Richard Wilkinson     Prof. Richard Wilkinson is one of Britain's leading social epidemiologists and co-author of the groundbreaking\, international bestseller The Spirit Level: Why Equality is Better for Everyone. Richard has played a formative role in international research on the social determinants of health and on the societal effects of income inequality. He is Professor Emeritus of Social Epidemiology at the University of Nottingham Medical School\, Honorary Professor at UCL and a Visiting Professor at the University of York. The Spirit Level won the 2011 Political Studies AssociationPublication of the Year Award and the 2010 Bristol Festival of Ideas Prize. Between 2001 and 2010 he occupied successively responsible positions at Cancer Care Ontario (CCO)\, the final 7 years as President and CEO.    Raisa Deber    Dr. Raisa Deber is Professor in the Department of Health Policy\, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. She is currently the director of Medicare to Home and Community (M-THAC)\, a community alliance health research program funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research.    Cam Mustard     Dr. Cam Mustard is Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences\, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto\, and Scientific Director at the Institute for Work Health. He is also Associate Director and Fellow of the Population Health Program of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.    Arlene King    Dr. Arlene King is Chief Medical Officer of Health of Ontario. She is an internationally recognized expert in immunization\, infectious diseases and pandemic preparedness. Prior to joining the ministry\, Dr. King was the Director General of the Centre for Immunization and Respiratory Infectious Diseases at the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).          Moderator    Adalsteinn Brown     Dr. Adalsteinn Brown is Associate Professor in the Division of Public Health Policy at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health\, University of Toronto. Recently\, he served as Assistant Deputy Minister\, both in the Health System Strategy Division in Ontario's Ministry of Health and Long-term Care and in the Science and Research Division in Ontario's Ministry of Research and Innovation.
