The WI has been working to raise the awareness that organizations need to develop concrete action plans for the upcoming pandemic flu possibility. These focus on four principles:
- Ensuring a multi-sectoral approach through private-public and third sector partnerships
- Developing personal and organizations plans quickly
- Ensuring a well researched role for primary care and public health people
- Ensuring a strong equity issue as the pandemic affects certain people disproportionately
A number of organizations have provided frameworks for organizational plans:
- Toronto Public Health has working guides for businesses, service providers, etc at http://www.toronto.ca/health/pandemicflu/index.htm at no charge
- See the WI research on this site under Thomas Appleyard
- Other information can be accesses at the Public Health Agency of Canada http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca
- The Ontario Ministry of health and Long Term care has provided their Emergency preparedness plan at http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/providers/program/emu/emerg_prep/emerg_resp_plan.html
- The Conference Board has guides available for $895 on their website
