Building upon a modest pilot study, the researchers intended to interview key informants to learn about the relationship between learning difficulties and homelessness in youth. Learning difficulties included literacy issues, learning disabilities, and problems with numeracy. In addition, researchers wanted to identify which programs and strategies were most effective for addressing learning difficulties in youth. A major challenge of the project, however, was that very little research has been done on literacy and numeracy programs when the literature review was conducted.
