The goals of the project were to build research skills in the research team and develop a proposal on social housing. The research team was unique because it included people living with mental illness as central contributors. Through educational workshops research members became familiar with existing information on social housing and interview techniques. They then went out into the field to collect data on different social housing agencies in Toronto. Drawing upon this research and their personal experiences as people with mental illness living in social housing, the researchers developed a full research proposal investigate the influence of supportive housing on the immediate and surrounding neighbourhoods.
