Dr. David McKeown

Dr. David McKeown, MDCM, MHSc, FRCPC, is a public health physician specialist. Over a 40-year career in public health, he has served as Medical Officer of Health for the Region of Peel and the City of Toronto, in which role he led Toronto Public Health, Canada’s largest local public health agency. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he served as Associate Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario.

In the course of his career, Dr. McKeown has developed and implemented innovative public health legislation, policies and programs, published reports on public health issues and policies, and been a vocal advocate for healthy public policy and health equity. Dr. McKeown has also served on the board of a number of non-profit organizations, including the Greenbelt Foundation and the YMCA of Greater Toronto.

Acknowledgement of Traditional Land

We wish to acknowledge this land on which the Wellesley Institute operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
