Thrmiga Sathiyamoorthy is a recent graduate from York University’s Interdisciplinary Studies graduate program, where she studied Tamil seniors’ experiences of social inclusion in the GTA using concept-mapping methodology. Previously, she completed her Bachelor of Health Sciences at Western University with a focus on gerontology and health promotion. At the Wellesley Institute, she will examine how waiting for a long-term care placement impacts the health and well-being of older immigrant women and their family caregivers. Through her work, Thrmiga intends to develop community-informed policy recommendations to support the development of an equitable strategy that places older immigrants in care in a timely manner to support their specific needs. Thrmiga is passionate about advocating for older immigrants’ health, the need for community-based mental health supports for racialized communities, and community-based research.
