The Community Health Environment Checklist is an observer-administered instrument developed to assess how receptive and accessible physical community environments are for people with mobility impairments. CHEC contains 65 questions organized into five sections: entering the building using an accessible pathway, moving through and using the building, accessing restrooms, accessing amenities and services, overall usability, including areas of rescue assistance.
The tool assesses whether specific environmental features act as facilitators or barriers for people with mobility limitations. It can be completed by trained professionals, researchers, accessibility auditors or community assessors.
