Engman’s housing quality assessment questionnaire

Engman’s housing quality assessment questionnaire is a tool used to assess building characteristics, visible moisture problems and mouldy odour in homes of preschool children as these are environmental exposures potentially associated with asthma and allergy. The questionnaire is divided into two instruments including a self-administered baseline questionnaire to be completed by parents and an inspector checklist.

The tool evaluates building characteristics such as type of house, type of ventilation system, foundation and type of floor coverings. It also assesses air quality indicators such as ventilation rate, temperature and humidity. Specific risks related to dampness and mould are assessed including visible mould, damp stains, bubbly flooring, blackened parquet and mouldy odours.
