This policy brief provides recommendations to address the rising cost of essential foods, improve health, and build local agriculture and supply lines.
A healthy diet throughout life helps to maintain good health and well-being and prevents many diseases and conditions. Food insecurity is a health equity issue and it affects peoples’ health in both the short- and long-term. Children from food insecure households are more likely to have poor physical and mental health, are more likely to go to the hospital, and have poorer academic performance and cognitive outcomes in later life.
