Salary range: $62,000 – $68,000
Description
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Communications Officer is responsible for the implementation of communications activities and strategies for both internal and external audiences, including print and e-communications, web and social media content with the goal of enhancing the reach and impact of Wellesley Institute. They will work closely with the Director of Communications in the ongoing planning, implementation and evaluation of communications across all platforms to ensure they meet organizational needs.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Post-graduate degree in Corporate Communications is an asset.
Experience:
Minimum two (2) years of experience in strategic communications, with a strong understanding of public policy, health equity and the social determinants of health. Expertise in web and social media content development, event management and experience writing and editing various communications vehicles tailored to diverse audiences.
Skills
- Expert knowledge of social media platforms, social media content development, and social media management, analytics, listening tools
- Expert understanding of traditional and digital, social media and how they work in harmony
- Ability to analyze data (i.e. Google analytics) and make appropriate recommendations
- Expert use of design software including Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience working with web content management systems and working knowledge of HTML and emerging web applications
- Proficient with MS Office applications
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Exceptional level of creativity, versatility, visual ability and originality
- Excellent writer and editor with the ability to produce engaging stories that support communications objectives
- Strong judgement skills and the ability to work effectively with staff, partners, and the public in a collegial and cooperative manner
Duties
Digital and Social Media:
- Work with the Director of Communications to support the development and implementation of content plans for digital and online communication vehicles
- Building and maintaining Wellesley’s presence on social platforms, creating conversation and posting appropriate and timely responses
- Monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of digital and online communications tactics through tools, reporting and metrics
- Utilizing new media to expand the reach and impact of Wellesley Institute’s work
- Identifying new social media platforms or technologies that offer potential benefit to Wellesley’s brand.
Event Management:
- Work with the Director of Communications to conceptualize, develop and execute a range of public-facing events, including planning of biennial health equity conference
- Work with venues, vendors and suppliers to ensure quality and cost effectiveness
- Produce supporting promotional materials for digital outreach
- Manage logistics leading up to, and on, event day
- Experience with virtual events an asset
Content Coordination:
- Writing and editing materials for internal and external stakeholders
- Editing, and proofreading research reports, policy documents and blogs, to include re-writing when necessary
- Creating and maintaining a publication, photo and web archive
- Providing expertise with the production of collateral materials including newsletters and annual reports
Website Content:
- Responsible for writing, editing, updating and posting content for the website
- Providing support for communications projects by gathering and analyzing communications data, preparing reports
- Organizing and maintaining web pages on the website, ensuring the information is up-to-date and posted in a timely fashion
- Periodical review of the Wellesley Institute website to ensure that it is up to date and consistent with the mission and brand
