Wellesley has a long history. We have been improving the health of people in Toronto for more than a century. In 1911, we began as a private hospital founded to treat rich and poor alike. In the 1940s, we became a public general hospital serving Toronto through its post-war boom years and pioneering new community health services.
Today, we are an independent research institute and a leading voice on health equity and social policy. We produce ground-breaking applied research, build skills and capacity, facilitate the synthesis and translation of knowledge, and influence policy to improve health and decrease health inequities.
Qualifications, skills, and experience
Wellesley Institute is looking for a Director of Communications and Partnerships to join our leadership team. Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Communications and Partnerships leads Wellesley Institute communications and partnership efforts in order to advance and support the organizations strategic plan goals. The Director develops and leads the execution of multi-pronged communications plans and is responsible for identifying appropriate communication tools to address multiple audiences. In addition, the Director leads Wellesley’s partnership efforts, including maintaining, overseeing, and building new relationships with community and sector partners and providing oversight of the organization’s external engagement.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about equity and the mission of Wellesley Institute. They will be a team player who is flexible, and happy to support and develop the skills of our dedicated research and policy staff. They will be an excellent communicator with a track record of working with the diverse populations which make up the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). They will be fully committed to increasing the impact and reach of Wellesley Institute.
A post-graduate degree in communications and demonstrable experience in leading communications is required. In addition, they will have proven leadership in the development of communications strategies, content development management of communications plans, and experience with new digital communication tools with an understanding of their role in reaching objectives. Experience developing communication materials for a variety of audiences, conducting needs analysis, and evaluation of communication efforts as well as leadership experience in community and partner relations are desirable. Strong decision-making skills, effective goal setting, and the ability to identify and manage politically sensitive issues with discretion will be necessary to thrive in this position.
General Information
We are located in downtown Toronto. This is an on-site position. We are currently working a hybrid of onsite/remote but may return to onsite only.
