CHRA calls for comprehensive national housing strategy to end homelessness

“Canada urgently needs a comprehensive national housing strategy that includes ending homelessness as a top priority.” That’s the lead from a new policy paper to be released on Wednesday morning by the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association at its annual conference, which is being held in Toronto. The policy paper sets out nine key principles to re-engage all levels of government and non-governmental groups in a comprehensive and fully-funded national housing strategy.

Michael Shapcott is Director, Affordable Housing and Social Innovation at Wellesley Institute. Michael has worked extensively in Toronto, in many parts of Canada, nationally and internationally on social innovation, the non-profit sector, civic engagement, housing and housing rights, poverty, social exclusion, urban health and health equity. He is recognized as one of Canada’s leading community-based housing and homelessness experts. He is currently on secondment to the Princes' Charities Canada.
