Toronto’s proposed Streets Bylaw bans “camping” on streets and sidewalks – similar to a Victoria bylaw that was struck down by the BC Supreme Court as unconstitutional and a violation of the Charter rights of people who are homeless. The sweeping new powers were never part of the bylaws of the former municipalities that were amalgamated to create the City of Toronto, but have been added into the new omnibus legislation.
