Building social capital in the GTA through “Connected Communities”
TORONTO – On February 29th, Professor David Morris will be giving a lecture at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute on the Connected Communities program which demonstrates that community-led action and targeted interventions can strengthen local communities. And the expected pay off is big, not just for those local communities as a group, but for building broader capacity, citizen engagement, and economic benefits through increasing employability and improving health overall.
David Morris is part of a team of researchers from the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, The University of Central Lancashire and the London School of Economics working on a longitudinal study trying to understand how community and social connections affect people’s well-being. This “Connected Communities” is a vision which supports the idea of reducing social isolation and improving the experience of greater well-being.
Wellesley Institute and partners will take the opportunity of having Dr. Morris here to ask the question, what could a “Connected Communities” project look like in the GTA?
Joining David Morris on stage are Anne Gloger from the East Scarborough Storefront project and Chris Penrose from Success Beyond Limits, two GTA projects that incorporate community-based and collaborative values to support their communities.
