The Listening to Learn project was a community-based research project that engaged adults with physical disabilities in Burlington, Ontario in a meaningful conversation about their experiences related to housing, services, and overall quality of life. The project involved four qualitative methods of gathering data: interviews, focus groups, Photovoice, and a community forum and exhibition.
The project was initiated by Supported@Home Burlington, a collaboration of seven forward-thinking service providers, as part of their person-centred approach to service design and delivery for people with disabilities. The group wanted to better understand the experiences of adults with physical disabilities in order to improve their proposed collaborative service delivery model for housing and support services for adults with physical disabilities. The goal is to ensure that the needs of adults with disabilities are at the centre of the design and that their input is integrated into the decision-making process, so that it best meets clients’ needs.
