As the Law Commission of Ontario has noted, a vision of equity in quality of life, health, and well-being in the last stages of life is not a reality for many Ontarians. We know from extensive health research literature that our access to quality health care, our health experiences, and our health outcomes are shaped by the social determinants of health.
Wellesley Institute applauds the Law Commission of Ontario (LCO) for their vital work to improve the last stages of life through law reform. The issues and questions raised by this work have a pivotal role in the lives of the people affected, their families and communities. This project has the potential to have a fundamental impact on how we see and support people during this important stage of their lives.
