Poor housing is directly linked to poor health outcomes. That’s a major finding of a comprehensive new research report on the health of low-income tenants in Manitoba Housing prepared by the University of Manitoba’s Centre for Health Policy. The study provides an in-depth look at the health status of social housing residents and joins a growing body of scientific and popular literature that sets out the links between housing and health. .
“Manitoba Housing clients often face a complex set of social and economic challenges and the range of outcomes in this report demonstrate the diversity of negative effects these challenges can produce”, according to the research report. “Given this, we recommend that a more integrated approach to providing and delivering government programs to this population be developed.”
