The Fred Victor Centre (FVC) has been working with Transsexual and Transgender clients since opening its women’s hostel in 1997. The (FVC) has identified the need for a best-practices model of hostel services for homeless transsexual and transgender people. The goal of this project is to develop a framework that outlines a broad based supportive service which includes integrated community services offering a continuum of care, and a comprehensive health strategy. The project used a participatory model to involve multiple stakeholders, including members of the community (Trans community consultations) and service providers (Shelter sector consultations). Findings from this study can be found in the document “creating a space where we are all welcome: improving access to the Toronto hostel system for transsexual and transgender people”.
