Interviews were conducted with over 40 youth in the LGBTTTIQ (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Transsexual Two-spirit Intersex and Queer) community who were either homeless or street involved. Participants also identified as dealing with mental health or substance use issues. The goal of the project was to learn about what issues these youth in the LGBTTTIQ community were confronting. Issues included barriers to accessing services and identity. The primary concerns, however, dealt with housing and income. Researchers have built upon these finding to create a research proposal about barriers to accessing safe housing and income security. Research training for youth participants was also a central goal of the project.
